myDATA sandbox API key: where to find your Wrapp test key

You open the Wrapp test API key yourself, free, from your wrapp.ai account. The button that gives it moves, though, depending on where you are in your account. Here is every place it lives, the first call to the sandbox, and what to do when something does not work.

You want to connect your application, POS or ERP to the Wrapp API and test before going live. You need two things: a login email and a test API key for staging.wrapp.ai, the Wrapp sandbox. You open them yourself, free, with no form to fill in and no email to wait for.

The «Try the API» button is not always on your screen, and that is not a fault. It only shows on the first step of the account setup. From the second step on, the test key is in the left menu. After activation, it is in Settings. All of them open the same test account.

If you do not have an account yet

  1. Sign up free at wrapp.ai with your business's Greek VAT number (ΑΦΜ).
  2. Set your password.
  3. On the first step of the setup, in the «Want to try it first?» box, press «Try the API».

The test account opens on staging.wrapp.ai and shows you the access details straight away. You do not need to finish activation first: you test while you complete your signup.

Where the button is, depending on where you are

Where you areWhat you press
First step of the account setup«Try the API», in the «Want to try it first?» box
Second step of the setup or laterLeft menu: «Try it free» → «Test API key»
Activated accountSettings → «Demo account»
The «API details» window shows a padlock«Try it free in the demo», in that same window

All four lead to the same test account. While the setup is unfinished, Settings does not open, which is why the key is only in the left menu at that point. «Demo account» opens the account without the API window: you get the details with one click on «API details», in the bar at the top.

A padlock in «API details» means your account's API is not yet open for live issuing: either activation is not finished, or your plan does not include it. The test key works in both cases.

What you see when it opens

With «Try the API» or «Test API key», the test account opens together with the «Try the Wrapp API» window:

  • Login email: the test account's email.
  • API key: hidden at first, with «Show API key» and «Copy».
  • Environment: staging.wrapp.ai, the host you send your calls to.
  • The «API documentation» button and three first steps.

Copy the login email from the window. It is not exactly the email you signed up to wrapp.ai with, and login to the sandbox needs the one in the window, together with the test API key.

While you are in the test account, a bar at the top of every page reminds you that you are in the test environment. From there, «API details» reopens the window whenever you need it, and «Back to wrapp.ai» takes you back to your real account. Signing out does the same.

The account comes ready: billing books for the main document types are already set up, so you can issue straight away. Nothing you issue there counts for tax purposes, and every document also shows in the test account's web app, with all its details.

The first call

The first thing your software does is log in: POST /api/v1/login with the login email and the API key. The response is a JWT that is valid for 24 hours, which you send with the calls that follow, as the documentation shows.

POST /api/v1/login
curl -L 'https://staging.wrapp.ai/api/v1/login' \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-d '{ "email": "the login email from the window", "api_key": "the test API key" }'

Next, GET /api/v1/billing_books returns the test account's billing books and their ids, so you can choose which one you issue from. From there you send your first document from your application. The full field schema is in the REST API documentation.

If your case has its own requirements, the API guides cover them with ready payloads: fuel stations, sales on behalf of third parties, EU distance sales under OSS and catering order notes.

If you build a platform for your own clients

If you are a software company opening Wrapp accounts for your clients, you also need a Partner API key (X-PARTNER-API-KEY). For testing, you create it inside the test account:

  1. From the menu, Connections → «Partner Portal».
  2. Give the partner a name and press «Create partner».
  3. The Partner API key appears at once.

The staging partner is for testing only. On wrapp.ai you create a separate one, with its own key, from the same screen. An admin of the account creates the partner. The calls that open accounts for your clients are in the Partners API documentation, and how to invite them without any code is in the guide to the Partner Portal.

When you go live

The test key stays on staging. When you activate your account you get a new API key for live issuing, under «API details» on wrapp.ai. The API is not included in every plan: you can see which plans include it on the Wrapp plans page.

The test account does not go away. Settings → «Demo account» takes you back to it whenever you want to try something before it reaches production.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my Wrapp test API key?

In your wrapp.ai account, and where it sits depends on where you are. On the first step of the account setup, press «Try the API». From the second step on, it is in the left menu under «Try it free» → «Test API key». After activation, Settings → «Demo account». All of them open the same test account on staging.wrapp.ai.

I cannot see the «Try the API» button. Why?

Because it only shows on the first step of the account setup. If you have moved on, the test key is in the left menu: «Try it free» → «Test API key». Nothing is broken, it has just moved.

Login to the sandbox fails with my email. Why?

Because the test account's login email is not exactly the email you signed up to wrapp.ai with. Copy the «Login email» from the «Try the Wrapp API» window and send it together with the test API key.

Can I log in to staging.wrapp.ai directly?

No. staging.wrapp.ai has no sign-in of its own, neither with a password nor with Google. You always enter from your wrapp.ai account, through one of the test account buttons. The staging API, on the other hand, is called directly by your software.

Does the test API key work on wrapp.ai?

No. The test key only works on https://staging.wrapp.ai, together with the test account's login email. For live issuing you get a new API key when you activate your account.

Does the sandbox cost anything?

No. Signing up to wrapp.ai and the test account are both free, and you do not need to send us a form or an email to open it.

Do the documents I issue in the sandbox count for tax purposes?

No. Nothing you issue in the test account counts for tax purposes, so you can run the whole flow freely before going live.

How do I get a test Partner API key?

Inside the test account: Connections → «Partner Portal», give it a name and press «Create partner». The Partner API key (X-PARTNER-API-KEY) appears at once. It is for testing only: on wrapp.ai you create a separate partner, with its own key. An admin of the account creates the partner.

I closed the window with the key. Where do I find it again?

In the bar at the top of the test account, press «API details». The window opens again with the login email and the API key.
